Acadian Ambulance has been selected as the emergency medical services provider for Bastrop County in Central Texas, and awarded renewal of its contract in Bexar County.

The decision by Bastrop’s Commissioners’ Court came after a competitive bid process and a recommendation from a committee made up of county officials. Operations in the county are scheduled to begin within 120 days.

“For more than 40 years, Acadian Ambulance Service has been committed to providing the best possible patient care and customer service,” Regional Vice President Troy Mayer said. “We look forward to bringing that tradition of excellence to Bastrop County and to providing residents with the level of care they expect and deserve.”

Additionally, Acadian Ambulance will continue to serve as the 911 provider for the unincorporated areas of Bexar County, the result of a recent unanimous vote by the University Health System Board of Managers.

Acadian first earned the three-year contract in 2009 and received a two-year extension in 2011. The board’s vote came after a competitive bid process; the new contract takes effect in May.

In addition to the unincorporated areas, Acadian also provides 911 services to 10 cities within Bexar County: Windcrest, Castle Hills, Balcones Heights, Von Ormy, Hollywood Park, Somerset, China Grove, Fair Oaks Ranch, Grey Forest and St. Hedwig.

“We’re committed to Bexar County and proud to provide emergency medical services to its residents,” Mayer said. “We have worked hard to provide exceptional care and service, and we look forward to being part of the county for many years to come.”

Acadian is one of seven nationally accredited ambulance services in Texas and one of 150 in the nation. The company is owned by its employees through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan.

Acadian, which has served Central Texas since 2007, provides emergency and non-emergency medical transportation in 32 counties in Texas and the Austin, San Antonio, Houston and Dallas metro areas.

Since 1971, Acadian has provided the highest level of emergency medical care and transportation possible. In the past decade, the company has expanded to include a diverse suite of services in health, safety, and transportation. Acadian's six divisions are Acadian Ambulance Service, Acadian Monitoring Services, Air Med, Executive Aircraft Charter Service, National EMS Academy and Safety Management Systems.
