Traffic accident results in fatality

Thursday, June 19, at 7:38 pm, officers with the Orange Police Department were dispatched to the intersection of 10th St. and Green Ave., in reference to a major traffic accident.

Upon arrival, officers located a 1999 Nissan passenger car, with major damage. The vehicle was occupied by four occupants. The other vehicle was a 2000 Ford Explorer, also with major damage.

The driver of the Nissan was extracted from the vehicle using the jaws of life. The driver was transported to Baptist Hospital Orange where she was pronounced deceased.The front passenger was transported to Baptist Hospital Orange with minor injuries. The driver’s side rear passenger was a two year old that was transported to Texas Children’s Hospital in Galveston by Air Rescue. The condition of the child is unknown. The rear passenger side occupant was uninjured. The driver of the Ford Explorer was uninjured. It was determined in the investigation that the Ford Explorer disregarded the red light, resulting in the accident.

Judge Dunn, Justice of Peace precinct 3, was contacted.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The police department was assisted by the City of Orange Fire Department, West Orange Police Department, and the Texas Department of Public Safety.
