Students at Bridge City High School competed for their Stark Reading Contest with Hanna Edwards taking first place in declamation and Ava Vicknair getting first place in interpretive reading. Second place winners were Sami Heathcoe in declamation and Madeleine Doyle. The first place winners receive a $2,000 scholarship from the Stark Foundation and second place winners get a $1,500 scholarship. Hanna and Ava will advance to the countywide Stark Reading Contest with finals being held at the Lutcher Theater at 2 p.m. April 28. Winners in the county competition will receive more scholarship money.
