Perfect spring weather is in the forecast for the Easter holidays this week, and once again the city of Orange is expecting hundreds of children and their families for the annual Easter Egg Hunt on Good Friday.

The free hunt and activities will be at the Riverside Pavilion at the City Boat Ramp off Simmons Drive. Gates will be open 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the egg hunt will start promptly at 10 a.m.

Children ages 11 and younger should bring baskets to collect the candy eggs. The egg-hunting is divided into age groups so the bigger kids don't beat out the younger ones.

The annual egg hunt has been sponsored by the city for nearly 45 years, except during the pandemic and for a few years in the early 1990s when budget cuts eliminated the activity.

Besides the egg hunt, a petting zoo will be available along with games and activities. Drawings will also be held and some of the eggs will hold certificates for special prizes.

Even though some of the Orange city employees will be working at the special event, city hall and other non-emergency offices will be closed Friday. The Orange Public Library will also be closed on Saturday.

Also, city halls and non-emergency offices will be closed on Friday in Bridge City, Pinehurst, West Orange, and Vidor. West Orange will also be closed for a holiday on Monday. All the cities will have regular garbage pickup schedules on Friday.

The Orange County Courthouse, plus other county offices will be closed for Good Friday. Others closing that day include the Orange County Drainage District, Orange County Appraisal District, and the Orange County Port.
